An easy famous unsolved problem :

I want just to share with you this famous unsolved problem.

Until today no one has answered the question (see the end)

Choose a number (a whole number)

If it is odd, multiply it by 3, add 1 and divide it by 2

If it is even divide it by 2

Example:

7

7*3+1=22

22/2=11

11*3+1=34

34/2=17

17*3+1=52

52/2=26

26/2=13

13*3+1=40

40/2=20

20/2=10

10/2=5

5*3+1=16

16/2=8

8/2=4

4/2=2


The question is:

Explain why the final results are always: 8-4-2
